📚 Max von Schramm
German immigrant Max von Schramm was an early Doncaster teacher, first teaching in the Lutheran church and later at the stone school on Doncaster Hill. After changes to education regulations, he established a private school beside the state school. His 1874 cottage served as both home and school, bringing domestic and working life under one roof. Later moved to preserve it, Schramms Cottage became a museum. It provides a surviving connection with the district’s German community and the development of local education.
