Events in and around Doncaster

As autumn approaches, there are plenty of fun and exciting events happening in and around the lovely town of Doncaster in Victoria, Australia. Here are just a few of the highlights:

- Doncaster Farmers Market: Every Sunday from 8am to 1pm, head down to Manningham Road for fresh produce, artisanal products, and delicious food stalls. There are often live music performances and cooking demonstrations too.

- Melbourne Symphony Orchestra at Doncaster: On May 15th, the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra will perform a special concert at the Doncaster Secondary College. The program includes works by Mozart, Beethoven, and Brahms, conducted by Benjamin Northey.

- Doncaster Library Literary Festival: From May 18th to 23rd, the Doncaster Library will host a week-long celebration of literature, including author talks, writing workshops, and book signings. Highlights include appearances by Charlotte Wood, Fiona McIntosh, and Graeme Simsion.

- Autumn in the Valley Wine and Food Festival: On May 22nd and 23rd, the Yarra Valley will come alive with the Autumn in the Valley Wine and Food Festival. Sample wines from over 20 wineries, taste delicious local food, and enjoy live music and entertainment.

- Doncaster Hill Art Exhibition: From June 9th to 13th, the Doncaster Hill Art Exhibition will showcase the work of over 100 local artists. Works on display will include paintings, sculptures, and photography, with many pieces available for purchase.

- Winter Solstice Lantern Walk: On June 20th, join the community in a beautiful lantern walk to celebrate the Winter Solstice. The walk will start in Ruffey Lake Park and end with a warm cup of hot chocolate and a bonfire.

- Manningham Victorian Family History Expo: On July 11th, the Manningham Victorian Family History Expo will take place at the Doncaster Uniting Church. Learn about tracing your family tree, preserving your family's history, and discovering your ancestors.

- Winter Wassail Festival: On July 24th, the Winter Wassail Festival will be held at the Warrandyte Community Garden. The festival celebrates the ancient tradition of wassailing, which involves singing, dancing, and toasting to encourage the apple trees to bear fruit.

- Doncaster Book Club: Every second Wednesday of the month, the Doncaster Library hosts a book club where members can discuss the latest literary releases and share their thoughts on classic works. The club is free and open to all.
