1. Dame Nellie Melba (1861-1931)
Dame Nellie Melba, born Helen Porter Mitchell, was one of the most famous Australian opera singers of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. She was born in Richmond, but later lived in Doncaster where she built a grand country house called "Coombe Cottage" in 1912. Melba was the first Australian to achieve international recognition as a classical musician.
2. Robert Helpmann (1909-1986)
Robert Helpmann was an Australian ballet dancer, actor, and choreographer. He was born in Mount Gambier, South Australia but spent some of his childhood in Doncaster.
